Connecting Older Adults and students

While I became used to my grandfather's health restrictions, yet concerned over his increasing isolation and loneliness. His issues inspired me to do some research into this problem my grandfather was having.

About Us

From the time I was a little boy, my mother fostered my relationship with my grandparents, even though they lived hundreds of miles away in Newton, Massachusetts. We made monthly trips to visit them, and I spent my time at my grandparents' house playing board games, discussing World War II, and learning about his alma mater and favorite place, Harvard University, and the various experiences he had there.  As the years progressed my grandfather gradually lost his ability to drive, work, and play tennis.  I was worried about his well being.

I found out that my grandfather was not alone in this issue, and found that this loneliness raises mortality rates.  Immediately, I was thrown into a tail spin because I felt that my grandfather was at serious risk. Asking myself how I could help, I decided to formulate a concept to address a prominent issue that faces the elderly: loneliness.  As my grandfather remains an invaluable resource for me, in spite of physical restrictions, an entire generation of grandparents can be a resource for the current student population.
